The course serves as a broad introduction to the overall themes and conceptual framework of the programme. Students are provided with an introduction to the most important features and characteristics of the range of societal and economic systems in east Asia, Europe and the Americas. This introduction includes key theories and concepts, policymaking systems, economic development strategies, socioeconomic systems and patterns of corporate governance.
